Hi all, and welcome back! We completed the first day of the 2014-15 school year with our first Jazz Band class! Other bands will begin as soon as their homeroom teachers finish their normal start-of-year orientations: 8th grade band is scheduled to start on September 10th, and 6th grade band on September 15th. I have not yet received a definitive start date from the 7th grade teacher teams, but will pass that along as soon as I have it.
Jazz Band: first performance on September 11th at Back to school night
Thank you! I appreciated that we all came to play with our instruments and best selves ready to participate. We continue daily from here on. The group looks good and I appreciated that we all came to play with our instruments and best selves ready to participate. We covered a lot of ground and will commence playing tomorrow at 7AM. I have run off the first five tunes, which are from last year, so many of you will be familiar with them. We will be selecting from these tunes for our first performance on September 11th at Back to school night! Thank you again for coming in today it really helped me get a bead on what I needed to accomplish today and I am grateful to you for your time and presence.
All other bands: My recommendation to those not in Jazz Band is to get those horns out and practice some scales and tunes to bring your embouchures and fingers back up to speed. That way, once the band comes together we can move right ahead smoothly. I am looking forward to a great year and to getting started as soon as possible. If you want to stop by to take care of logistics (lockers, instruments, or just to say hi), I will be in my room during 6th period every day until 7th grade band starts.
I hope everyone had a long and enjoyable summer full of family and outdoor activities! More soon!
