Well it is May 8th and the school year is coming to a conclusion. Last weekend on Saturday May 3rd our Cougar Jazz Band participated in the First Annual Washoe County Jazz Festival at North Valley HS in Reno NV. The band played a whole new set of songs and did a great job earning Excellent ratings from both of the judges. congratulation to everyone on a fun day. We ended with a stop at U-Swirl Frozen Yogurt off MacCarran Blvd on the way home. It was a cool sweet treat on a hot day!
This Friday is the All State Solo and Ensemble Festival at Capistrano Hall in CSU Sacramento. We have 5 students who made it to this level.
Congratulations to Jackson Keith (7th) , Andrew Bechdolt (8th), and Zarek Livak (8th) who all got in with Solos, and the ACMS Trumpet Trio, Zarek, Aaron and Brandon (all 8th) whom were our only ensemble to make it in this year!
Reminder that the Jazz Band will not be at the Empire Mine Jazz Festival this weekend, but if you would like to hear some of our students perform. We have a Flute ensemble participating in the Tahoe Music Institute's Solo & Ensemble Festival this Saturday at the Tahoe Music Institute in Lake Forest-Tahoe City. Good luck to Avery Fournier, Sierra Bohnet and Sid Klovstad!
They will be performing at 9:10AM if you would like to go support them!
The Cougar Jazz Band is looking forward to three more performances this year at our Trimester III concert, which will be at Truckee High School on May 22nd, at Olympic Valley Lodge on May 30th with Inner Ryhthm's Dance company and finally at our Alder Creek Middle School graduation ceremony on June 12th, 2014.
Our Trimester III concert which includes all bands 6th through 8th grades will be happening this year at Truckee High School.
It is the same date... May 22nd, but I am not sure what time we will start. I will let you know in a later communication.
Before I go I would like to say that it has been a very busy and great year with much music being made and much learning going on. Parents... I would not be able to do this work with out your support... I wish to share a heart felt thank you for all of you who have volunteered to help in many forms. The number of volunteers this year is too numerous to list here, but you all know who you are... and without you... we would not have been able to do any of the multitude of events we participated in and hosted this year ... so, I and the students thank you!
